Dr Sharon, What is fibroid & what do you think are the root causes of Fibroid In The Body?
Fibroid are tumors made from smooth muscles cell and fibrous connective tissue. They are abnormal growths that develop in or on a woman’s uterus. Sometimes these tumors become quite large and cause severe abdominal pain and heavy periods. In other cases, they cause no signs or symptoms at all. The growths are typically benign, or noncancerous.
Fibroids (also called leiomyomas) are growths made up of the muscle and connective tissue from the wall of the uterus. These growths are usually not cancerous (benign). Your uterus is an upside down pear-shaped organ in your pelvis. The normal size of your uterus is similar to a lemon. It’s also called the womb and it’s the place where a baby grows and develops during pregnancy.
Fibroids can grow as a single nodule (one growth) or in a cluster. Fibroid clusters can range in size from 1 mm to more than 20 cm (8 inches) in diameter or even larger. For comparison, they can get as large as the size of a watermelon. These growths can develop within the wall of the uterus, inside the main cavity of the organ or even on the outer surface. Fibroids can vary in size, number and location within and on your uterus.
Most fibroids happen in women of reproductive age. They typically aren’t seen in young women who haven’t had their first period yet.
The exact cause of fibroid is linked to the Estrogen Hormone. Estrogen is the female reproductive hormone produced by the ovaries (the female reproductive organs). Fibroids usually develop during a woman’s reproductive years (from around the age of 16 to 50) when estrogen levels are at their highest.
They tend to shrink when oestrogen levels are low, such as after the menopause when a woman’s monthly periods stop. Fibroids are common, with around 1 in 3 women developing them at some point in their life. They most often occur in women aged 30 to 50.

Women who have had children have a lower risk of developing fibroids, and the risk decreases further the more children you have. Fibroids are more common from age 30 to the age at which menopause begins. They usually shrink after menopause. Between 20 to 80% of females develop fibroids by the age of 50, according to the Office on Women’s Health (OWH).
The dark side of fibroid is that it occurs in the early stages of puberty, this is the major reason why most women affected with fibroid can’t conceive.
Dr Sharon, What are the fibroid symptoms to look out for in the human body?
The symptoms of fibroid vary from one person to another because fibroid develops in time and due to different genetic makeup and family history, symptoms can change from one day to another in the same person.
This is one of the reasons that one person can suffer from persistent bleeding, heavy periods or painful periods and the other person with can experience frequent urination, consistent miscarriage, abdominal pain, constipation, pain during sex also known as dyspareunia, menstruation that lasts longer than usual, swelling or enlargement of the abdomen, lower back pain, chronic vaginal discharge, Inability to urinate or completely empty your bladder, Increased abdominal distention (enlargement), causing your abdomen to look pregnant, vagina dryness and many others.
Dr, What Are The Complications Of Fibroid To Our Body If Neglected?
Let me make this clear: Fibroid is one of the fast killing health problems in the world today.
Fibroids continue to grow over time, your body’s tissues and organs can be seriously damaged. Some complications can be life-threatening over time.
Complications can arise from the location of the fibroids. These complications range from intermittent bleedings to continuous bleeding over weeks, from single pain episodes to severe menorrhagia and chronic abdominal pain with intermittent spasms, from dysuria and constipation to chronic bladder and bowel spasms and even to peritonitis.
Infertility may be the result of continuous metro and menorrhagia, leading to chronic infection and uterine spasms up to non-implantation. Possible complications resulting from treatment of these disorders are haemorrhages (serious blood escaping from the circulatory system from damaged blood vessels), urinary tract infection, adhesions, and secondary pain resulting from the treatment efforts.
Failing to diagnose and fix this problem in a timely manner can result in far more severe and chronic symptoms and disorders (as I explain later) which can seriously endanger your health and well-being.
Dr, Is Fibroid resistant to antibiotics?
You might have come across big claims about treatments that shrink fibroid completely. But did they really work? Well to be frank, many people would love to say a big “NO”. Many strains have developed resistance to the effects of antibiotics.
Treatment options for fibroids vary — severity of the symptoms, size and location of the fibroid lesions, the patient’s desire to maintain fertility— with the ultimate goal of therapy being relief of the symptoms.
As we learn more about the impact of fibroids on fertility, it becomes important for patients to understand there are levels to fibroid, antibiotic use does not significantly treat infectious complication rates following uterine fibroid embolization (UFE).
Some of the common infections in fibroid patients are ovarian cyst, urinary tract infection, gangrenous cholecystitis, soft tissue infection. Bacteremia can accompany infection at any of these sites. The treatment of fibroid is increasingly becoming difficult because of the multidrug resistance (MDR) exhibited by the organism. Contrary to common belief: Antibiotics do not get into the uterus well. Small amounts of bacteria might “hide” in the uterus and not be killed by the antibiotic. Once you stop taking the antibiotic, the infection can get bad again. If this happens, you might have to take antibiotics for a long time to prevent another infection.
Fibroid that is not caused by infection is often chronic. If you have this kind of fibroid, you might have to take medicine for a long time, in most cases surgery will be needed if you continue to treat the fibroid with antibiotics.
Women who have treated fibroid once are more likely to get it again if treated with antibiotics, this is why antibiotics are termed short term solutions to long term fibroid problem – they do not offer lasting solutions.
This is why the conventional medical treatment of fibroid is tragically flawed. Antibiotics are short term solutions to long term problems and, if you’re thinking right now that maybe the fibroid medications do help just enough to keep you alive, think again.

A 2013 review of available studies found that menopausal symptoms reduced more, on average, in women taking black cohosh than in women taking fibroid antibiotics. The study involved 66 people with fibroid who took 5 grams (g) of the seed preparation twice a day before meals, and 74 controls, who did not take it. The researchers concluded that taking the seed led to: reduced musculoskeletal pain and spasms, tonify the kidney and uterus, reduce loss of elasticity and moisture in the vulva and vaginal tissues.

- Poria Mushroom: Poria contains several substances thought to promote good health, including: Polysaccharides, which are known to enhance immune function.
